Descriptions
"Mount Royal1": Mount Royal, the mountain in the middle of the city from which Montreal gets its name, as seen from across the river, behind downtown Montreal. You can see the cross on top.
"Mount Royal Bike Path": A scenic trail that winds it's way up the mountain from Park Avenue, open to bikes and foot traffic.
"Mount Royal Cross": The cross on top of Mount Royal. It's 31 metres high, and lights up at night.
"Beaver Lake-Montreal": A small artificial lake on top of Mount Royal, as seen from the top of a hill. There are ducks and paddle boats in the summer, and ice skating and sledding down the hill in the winter.
"Mount Royal Lookout": A lookout near the top of Mount Royal facing south, that overlooks downtown Montreal.
"View from Lookout": A picture taken from the above lookout.
"Montreal View": The east end of Montreal, featuring the Olympic Stadium as seen from the Mount Royal eastern observation point.
"Tam-Tam-Jam": Every Sunday, when they eventually get out of bed, most of Montreal's Hippie population gather at the foot of Mount Royal for the "Tam-Tam-Jam". They play music, dance, and sell their crafts...if you want to buy some bongo drums, this is the place. All are welcome, and young people come from all over to relax, play with frisbees, hula-hoops, and hacky sacs...and smoke some funny smelling cigarettes. Despite a constant police presence, no one is arrested though...even alcohol is permitted, and the event is tolerated due to it's peaceful nature, and the fact that's it's become a Montreal tradition. I just got back from taking these pictures...man, I suddenly got the munchies...
"Medieval Battle": Another regular Sunday event on Mount Royal is a gathering of warriors, dressed in medieval garb and sporting plastic weapons. They do battle on a dusty plain just uphill from the Tam-Tam-Jam, so the "atmosphere" has the same odor. They're pretty good, obviously practiced in the handling of their chosen weapons (there are even archers) and really get into the role-playing. It looked like a lot of fun.
"Mount Royal Bike Path2": Another view of the path leading up the mountain, but this time in autumn.
