The Tour de l'Īle

I ran the Tour de l'Īle today
This story tells it all
A bicycle tour running through
The streets of Montreal

The crowd that came to run the Tour
Was thirty thousand strong
The distance of the Tour this year
Was forty-five k's long

The forecast called for rain today
It was an even bet
All one could do was dress for it
And prepare to get wet

They started us at nine fifteen
The journey had begun
From my first push on the pedal
I started to have fun

The first hour went by real fast
The wind was on my back
When I had reached the halfway point
I stopped to have a snack

A quick refill of my water
And I left with much haste
I was running against the clock
There was no time to waste

I start to push and all around
Were people dropping out
Some flats, some crashes, some were beat
Misfortune all about

The wind was on my face now and
The pedaling was tough
The first half went by easily
The second would be rough

The Tour took us through neighborhoods,
Quarries, refineries
My legs were starting to burn now
And I had aching knees

My body was completely sore
From my toe to my thumb
Everywhere except for my butt
Which by now had gone numb

I managed to finish the Tour
Without getting too wet
I checked my time and found that a
Personal best was set

My time from start to finish was
Two hours twenty-two
I averaged twenty k-p-h
And was glad to be through

But just as I started on home
The rain began to fall
I end the day by getting soaked
Oh well, can't win 'em all!
